Telefon Bimbit.

Tak kisahlah samada mereka sedang bersembang, bertengkar ataupun ber‘sms’.

Three Frustrating Days.

It's kind of alarming and disconcerting to realize how dependent we have become to the Internet nowadays. I mean to us the Net-nuts ( my own term :p). How hard it is to get a day passes us by without finding ourselves "logging-on" at least once.

This doesn't take into account the duration of course which may varies from one person to another. My average time spent on-line would be at least an hour per session. Ordinarily, a session would include updating my blogs, check e-mails and sourcing for relevant info which all these will only be available if we are logged in to the Internet.

So imagine for the last three days that I was not able to have access to the Internet because of a road accident which had disrupted the phone lines and also the Internet. In other words it was really frustrating.

The fact remains that several service provider corporations in this country, to some extent, had total monopoly to selected market niches without having the worry of other competitors. Still this doesn't mean they can simply provides below-par services at their whim and fancy.

And yes, it can be so damn frustrating at times. And there is nothing that we can really do about it so long as the Government let the status-quo stays.

Sabah Assemblyman: Monitor Foreigners Pressence In Tenom.

KOTA KINABALU, July 27 (Bernama) -- A state assemblyman has called on the relevant authorities to monitor the unusually large number of foreigners posing as locals, in the Tenom district.

A Sabahan own perspective - You can tell not only by their dialects though. You can tell them by the way they act, walk, dress and also by the places they like to mingle and socialized. I'm afraid Tenom may not be the only district that has been "invaded" by these people. In fact I dare say that they have "invaded" to almost all the districts there is in Sabah. Yes, you name it. Filipinos, Indonesians and Pakistanis - they are here, there and everywhere. One way or another, they are staying and you, me or Datuk Radin's complain will really not make that any big difference.

If it happened I did not realized it.
My location is quite far away from the town. Hope it won't get any worse than that.

Saudi Arabia Haj Prohibition

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- The Pilgrims Management and Fund Board (TH) said Thursday it had not received any official instruction from the Saudi Arabian government on a reported prohibition on elderly people, children below 12 and people with chronic illnesses performing the pilgrimage this year due to the Influenza A(H1N1) global pandemic.

The Saudis concern is understandable but the question is how will the people especially the elderly will take this news. Then if the Saudis do really decide to enforce this prohibition, then one can only imagine their disappointment and sadness. If there is one thing I will try hard never to do is to disappoint any elderly person. (Unless of course that particular person is insane or the request made is unacceptable.)

It’s not Hard to Say Thank You

An article worth reading.

It’s not Hard to Say Thank You

by Timothy Spencer

Saying the words “thank you” is one of the first lessons a child must learn by example at home. Showing gratitude and making it a habit is a trait that can take one anywhere. Politicians, actors, and musicians say these words in every speech delivery possible. Why would they not when they will be nowhere close to where they are without their supporters and fans.

Pronouncing these two words does not have to be verbal all the time. A flower delivery accompanied by lavender tea bags in the afternoon is a good way to thank your editor for staying up all night, proofreading your manuscript to the last word. Kids show appreciation to their favorite teachers by giving them the juiciest and reddest apple, their mom’s infamous brownies, and drawings of their entire class by the school garden complete with multi-colored butterflies and doodled flowers. While they are crossing their fingers for monetary bonuses, staff members usually just get pizza and pasta from their bosses for bagging a new client.

It is especially beneficial to show gratitude in romantic relationships. The habit of frequently thanking your partner or as they say, being “romantically polite”, not only shows your appreciation but it also boosts his or her ego overtime. In addition, when you thank your partner for even the simplest gesture, the cheapest gift, or just for giving you a casual complement, it cues him that you liked what he just did or gave. This will definitely go down in this mental notebook as the things that please you and he in turn will do it more often.

Your options on how to say thank you, as a romantic partner is almost bottomless. Flowers and chocolates are and have always been good thank you tokens. Giving his dog a bath or bringing his car to the car wash is will guarantee a good karma. Handing the remote over during season finals and not talking during the game might sound silly but this will go a long way to some men.

Since gratitude is relative, saying or showing thank you can also be overdone. The key is to keep the delivery of your appreciation in the same or just a little over the gravity of the gift or gesture you have received. The only exception to this rule that I can think of would be saying thank you to your parents, your brother’s heart transplant donor, or the woman who gave you three beautiful children that you can just look at the whole day.

A Wish From The Bushes.

Been a few days since I did any posting. Besides being busy with work and other personal matters that needed my immediate attention, I'm being bogged down by the poor Internet service being provided here.

I am currently working not far from the majestic Mount Kinabalu. Had to utilized my computer for other more urgent e-mails and work-related things whenever there's Internet connection available.

Other than that I had no other complain. Working outstation full-time does however make you feel lonely at times especially being far from one's family. Being in my line of work (construction) however, one had to get use to be apart from their loved ones over a period of time. Such were the price and sacrifice one had to make to cari makan and I do believe there are many others out there too who had to go through the same path I took whether by work-related or study reasons.

Anyway, being far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and adapting to a semi-recluse way of life here still won't let me escape and being ignorant to what is happening out there all over the country.

So many occurrence of depressing development of late that I do wish there are still some clear and sensible heads out there who will quickly get down to the serious business of tackling and arresting these unhealthy development by the neck.

PAS Won.

As expected, PAS won in the Manek Urai by-election although by a much reduced majority. A very good sign for BN and a big worry to PKR. More info here.

Grim

If our people do not wake up from their deep '
slumber' soon, then they will be in for a rude awakening in the near future when most of the business opportunities that by right should be theirs - falls into the hands of outsiders.

My own definition for outsiders in this particular posting refers to the too many foreigners already found here - legal or otherwise. Just go and take a quick look around and you will see what I mean.

Being involved in the construction sector I found much to my disapointment that more and more Filipinos and Indonesians are competing and winning against the locals for sub-contracting jobs. Then there is also the transportation and food sectors to name a few. More and more of them are taking over from where our local people had chose to ignore or uninterested to be involved in. And I am only refering to the business sectors and had not touch on other matters such as education yet.

It is just too depressing for me to continue and suffice for me to end this article by stating that, unless there is a sudden drastic change in the mind set of our people and a change in the policy of tackling such issue by our leaders, then the future does look grim for us and our children.

Inconsiderate Remark Of A MP.

Granted that what he had said may be true. Still, to have such a remark coming from a Member of Parliament to state a point is totally uncalled for. Read the full article here.

Kundasang Town.

Whatever did happened to this town? I remembered that ten years ago it was a beautiful town and the condition of the landscape was not as bad as what I had witnessed recently.

Notice the retaining wall under construction and the condition of the road. (Cick on photo to enlarge).

It is no secret that the town and the surrounding area had ground movement problems as can be seen with lots of retaining walls being built. Presently a retaining wall is being constructed right in front of the entrance to the town.

Some of the buildings badly need to be repainted. These are just in front of the war memorial. Notice the tourist coach on the righ hand side of the photo. What will be on their mind when they saw the condition of the town.

All this while I had only been passing through without really dropping by and had a real good look of the place. I was really shocked to witness the condition of the town when I paid a visit to the town proper after a lapse of 10 years. It has that look of a town that has been neglected where most of the shop houses I see are badly in need of repainting while the town square itself is really in a bad shape. I did however, saw a renovation works of some sort to beautify the place in progress as I wrote this post. How beautiful the square will look like once all the works has been completed, however, remains to be seen.

For a small town as Kundasang, it has quite a number of Billiard saloons. I count three after making a quick look around. All the tables at the three salons are full which could only mean one thing. Either the patrons had so much free time or that they are a plain lazy lot.

Another thing that caught my attention was that ten years ago I could still see a lot of local faces around. Now what I see are more foreigners than locals and come to think of it, the town reminded me as one that I used to see at the East coast of Sabah. It has that look and feel of `foreign air and smell’ and also dirty with rubbish strewn all over the place. Only the hardworking cleaners were able to make the place looks presentable to visitors.

So where did some of the locals go? Some had moved to other places in Sabah. The younger generation had either moved to other larger towns to look for work while other tried their luck in Semenanjung.

What a shame for such a beautiful place. On a clear day, one could see the Mount Kinabalu quite clearly from here. It had a few number of tourist attraction spots and one such place is the War Memorial located just behind the town. What a sore eye the town would be to the visiting tourists.

The local authority must do something to at least have the buildings repainted and whatever happened to the ADUN or MP for this place?

Bizarre News.

Strange and bizarre is how I would describe this.

First it was "Mee Segera" Now It's "Gigi Segera".

After reading this article, I know now that provided I had the necessary fund, I won't have to worry about being toothless anymore. Want to know why? Then read this.

By the way, congratulation to our local boys for the improvements made to this old technology. Although not original but still to be able to manufacture it locally and made available commercially, is till an achievement.

Teaching Of Science and Maths Subjects In English Scrapped.

I honestly was not surprise when the Government announced the teaching of the Maths and Science subjects in English would be scrapped and shall be reverted to Bahasa Melayu beginning 2012.

I had noticed how my children struggled in both subjects. I had to assist them with their homework and to the extent of enrolling them in private English classes just so that they can do well in both subjects. One of the most glaring failure if you asked me are from the teachers. Personally, I blamed them as the main cause for the failure of this policy. How do you expect students to improve and do well if the teachers are conducting their classes in
'bahasa rojak'?

Far from being welcomed when first introduced, the policy had from the beginning been meeting stiff resistance from almost every quarters who argued that it would undermine the significance and status of the Bahasa Melayu as our National language. Well, they finally won. They got what they wanted and hopefully it will beneficial to the Nation as a whole.

Finally just for the interest of the readers, read this article here and another interesting one here.

(Personally, I would rather see that the policy be implemented over a ten year period before being appraised for its effectiveness and weaknesses.

Snippet.

Folks! Some of you may be wondering what happened to this blog. Well it so happened that I am working full-time outstation now and incidentally, in a place where the Internet connection can be as unpredictable as the weather.

It has been almost two weeks that I was unable to access the Net because of no connection. If there is , the connection is so slow. Tried complaining to Telekom but to no avail. Broadband indeed.

So until the connection improves, had to make do with postings made at the nearest available cybercafes.
