Had quite a sad experience last Sunday when I had to attend the funeral of the wife of a relative who passed away that morning due to leukemia.
She was really still quite young and got married just over a year ago. I was involved with the 'rombongan merisik' or the engagement ceremony, then the wedding and finally the "most not looked forward to but had to" rituals of sending the deceased to her final resting place.
This whole episode had me thinking that it is not a bad idea that any about to be married couples should go for a health screening before tying the knots. Not only for HIV, diabetes or thalassemia detection but any life threatening diseases as well.
I have not heard affected couples are stopped from getting married yet but at the very least they should not have a child. Any responsible person would not do it.
However, knowing our society which majority still believe in fate, such advice may only fall on deaf ears. They would only tell you that it is fated and written and could not be altered.
How sad ...
