MyKad Error

PETALING JAYA: Your MyKad may be safe in your wallet or handbag. But is it usable?

Over a million MyKad holders reported faulty chips last year after the cards were rejected at banks and at the Immigration Department, Road Transport Department, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and PLUS Bhd, among others.

I got my new Mycard issued to me less than 5 years ago and it is already broken on the edges and the smart chip is unreadable.

The last time I tried opening a new account at a Public Bank branch in Kota Kinabalu, I was asked to return with my birth certificate after their machine failed to get a reading from the smart chip of my Mycard.

The NRD claimed that men forms the majority reporting of faulty Mycard smart chips.

They must remember that as most men, we placed our Mycard in our wallets and we also normally have our wallets placed at the back pockets of our pants.

So they should come up with a better and improved method to produce better quality card which is not only durable but the smart chip doesn't easily deteriorate and rendered useless after short period of time.

Granted it doesn't cost much to replace and obtain a new Mycard, it is the process - from the application itself right up until the replacement card is issued - are such time consuming. Maybe they should look into this and cut the whole process to the shortest time possible?

Finally, after all these there is still no guarantee that we won't have to go through the whole cycle again.
